We know the story all too well
Yeah, it’s one that most of us have read
A man, beaten by the road
He was robbed and he was left for dead
He was robbed and left for dead

One man walked by, he crossed over to the other side
A holy man, so wise, he saw the cry in the hurt man’s eyes

And he still walked by
He still walked by
He went on with life
He still walked by

We know the story all too well
Then came a Good Samaritan
He had compassion for that man
Cleaned his wounds and left him at the inn
Saved his life, so it could start again

We know God’s plan. We’ve read the book and we understand
A holy people, so wise, we know there’s pain and we hear the cries

And we still walk by
We still walk by
We go on with life
We still walk by

We try to ignore their desperate looks
We come up with every excuse in the book
We think we’re so busy, we think we’re so poor
When people are hurting outside of our doors
They’re people with children, They’re children with dreams
That will never happen if we choose not to see
We’re on the same journey, we’re all on the path
With all we’ve been given, with all that we have…

Will we still walk by?

Canyon

I was in the Sun one time
Mostly trying not to get burnt
And if I fall along the way, I said, That’s fine.
OK, as long as I don’t get hurt.
Some think it’s fine to pack your bags and look around a little
Just so you don’t forget your home town
One day while walking on the edge I hit a patch of gravel
And it’s a long way down…

Oh, the canyon I’ve fallen in
Gotta get me out now
Oh, the height I’ve gotta climb, my soul’s penniless, and I…
I’ve dug a deep one this time.

I’ve got a remote control racer
It goes as fast or slow as I tell it to go
And if it wrecks, you see, it really doesn’t matter
‘Cause my daddy’s got the dough
We’d march right to the store and purchase me a couple more
This time with turbo engines, too
But that’s not the way “the man upstairs”, as we have coined the term
Wills for me and you…              I slipped again…

I’ve really dug a deep hole this time, haven’t I?
